The following is just a small step in an incredible journey that I embarked upon when I became involved in the Tea Party Movement:
On Saturday June 19, 2010 a motion was given to the delegates at the Indiana Republican Party’s Convention in Indianapolis to adopt the Resolutions Committee report.
The motion to adopt the platform was given by the most unlikely of all people…a non politician, an ordinary citizen who in normal times dutifully voted, but resigned himself into believing one person could not invoke change, so he sat at home and complained about the political state of affairs the country faced.
That was until the day that he would no longer yield another inch of ground lost to the erosion of freedom by a government gone awry. When all that one holds dear is threatened… his family, his livelihood and his country, a man is compelled to rise up, even if alone, and fight for the very survival of all that is important to him.
On April 15, 2009 I made my voice heard by attending the tax day protest at the State Capitol in Indianapolis. That was the day that I became a political activist. The next many months were spent talking to all that would listen of the perils our country faced. It was if I was alone in this crusade, even having family members question my sanity.
And so it was alone that I journeyed to the nation’s capitol on September 12, 2009 to participate in the March on Washington. The organizers of the event were hoping for 100,000 people to attend. On the morning of the event I entered the Metro subway alone, but when I exited and emerged onto Pennsylvania Avenue, I knew I was no longer alone in this fight. I was nearly brought to tears as I was joined with one and a half million other concerned patriots. As far as the eye could see were a sea of American flags, signs and banners. For over six hours we stood and listen to story after story of the perils this great country faced. When the day ended, not one piece of trash could be found, not one arrest made. We left our capitol as we found it, but we left forever changed.
In the weeks afterwards, I co founded Hoosier Patriots and have worked tirelessly in my personal efforts to save the republic. Doors have opened for me that would not have opened if not by the hand of GOD. The past several months have been fruitful with one opportunity leading to another, all the while building progress in awaking a sleeping nation.
In March of this year, one of the doors that opened for me led to the headquarters of the Indiana Republican Party. It was through these doors that the unlikely individual would emerge and go on to make a motion on the floor of the state convention for the platform to be adopted.
The following is the speech that I gave:
My friends would say that the two words that best describe me are: conservative and republican.
That is why I carried this flag most of my life. (Waving a GOP 3’ x 5’ flag)
But I began to realize that those two words are not always synonymous.
So I picked up this flag (Waving a 3’ x 5’ Don’t Tread on Me flag) and founded Hoosier patriots… a 1200 member strong patriot group…with members in 16 states.
Tens of millions of Americans have been drawn to the tea party movement because of frustration and anger over the direction in which the country is headed.
Tea Partiers feel that there is a gap between their beliefs and values and those of many politicians in Washington.
So we took our passion and convictions to the streets and both political parties took notice.
But the Republican Party is our natural home and it is this party that wishes to work with us…not destroy us.
To his credit, Chairman Clark reached out to those of us in the tea party movement in an effort to bridge that gap.
Together we worked on the platform committee and in doing so the gap has narrowed. (Moving both flags close together)
If our conservative philosophy is to survive, we must take heed the battle cry of the original patriots…We must: JOIN or DIE!!! (Waving both flags in one hand, joined together)
We will work with you to ensure that conservative values and candidates win the day.
With that sentiment I urge you to join me in support of the 2010 platform and hereby move the adoption of the Resolutions Committee report.
I can assure all of you...that in each and everyone of us resides an inherent ability to achieve more than you consciously believe that you can. This country was founded by great men who in any other time or place would have appeared as ordinary. Through divine guidance and inspiration, they rose up and challenged tyranny and created the greatest, freest nation in the history of human civilization.
What greatness resides within you? Will it rise up and see the light of day, or will it remain forever buried, never realizing the potential it had in affecting positive change within a family, a community, a nation...
If you have a story or know of someone that is affecting positive change, please share it with us.

Re: The Time to Rise is Now
Thank you for such an inspiring story and website. I believe in your mission of connecting the righteousness of the Faithful with the energy and historical perspective of the Tea Party movement.
It should provide for a powerful synergy. When is your first event?

I totally support your thoughts and beliefs in your work with the tea party and Freedom Works. I too am a neophite in the political arena. My initiation was the tax day protest and from there have started to work with individual campaigns for public office. Keep strong and keep doing what you are doing.....we will all be better in the end with the hard work and support of wonderful leaders such as you. Good luck and God Bless you and your family.

Re: The Time to Rise is Now
Greg, I, too, became politically active on 4/15/09 when Faith Jones in Valpo got off her couch and held a TEA Party rally on the square. How great it was to see many others that knew the current direction of the country was wrong! My family and I also attended 9/12/09. What a day that was. I came home and told people, "Just imagine that 1 Million of your best friends threw a birthday party for you on the Capital Lawn, that is what 9/12 was like!" I was trying to see what role I could play in correcting the mess when I tried to be a delegate at the GOP state convention. But I couldn't qualify because I had taken part in Rush's Operation Chaos during the Spring of 08. But, there was a primary in 2010, and I proudly pulled the R ballot. By then I even knew personally many of those on the ballot. And then I qualified to be a delegate and I went. Things were going well, and then I saw a man with a shaved head holding a yellow flag. I couldn't believe it! I knew then that I had to find out what THAT was all about! After that we "met" on facebook, and then met in person at the Kokomo HP training. Greg, thank you for stepping out and doing what you can for your country. I look forward to partnering with you not only at HFCS, but also Am Refocused.
